Headshot of Berkin Dortdivanlioglu

Assistant Professor, Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering, UT Austin

Berkin Dortdivanlioglu is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering and is also affiliated with the Oden Institute for Computational Engineering and Sciences. He earned his Ph.D. (2019) and M.S. (2015) in Civil and Environmental Engineering from Stanford University, and holds a B.S. in Civil Engineering from Middle East Technical University in Turkey (2013).

His research team, the Computational Mechanics of Soft Materials Group, develops advanced computational models, theoretical frameworks, and physics-based simulation techniques for soft, highly deformable materials. Their work aims to uncover dynamic changes in shape, topology, and function in gels and polymers; reveal how mechanical, chemical, and electrical stimuli interact, with a focus on energy-generating flexoelectric materials; and capture size-dependent energetics and lower-dimensional effects at surfaces, interfaces, and fibers across multiple time and length scales to guide the design of soft functional materials.
