Assistant Professor, Chemical Engineering, UT Austin
Ilias Mitrai is an Assistant Professor at the McKetta Department of Chemical Engineering. Before joining UT, he completed his undergraduate studies at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, a Ph.D. at the University of Minnesota, and a post-doc at Georgia Institute of Technology.
His research group, Systems and AI Lab, is focused on developing efficient optimization and control algorithms for the solution of decision-making problems arising in the design of energy systems, the resilient operation and design of supply chain networks, and the development of intelligent and autonomous systems. We combine tools from mathematical optimization, artificial intelligence, control theory, and chemical engineering. Current projects are focused on 1) using artificial intelligence to accelerate optimization algorithms, 2) supply chain management, 3) design of hybrid surrogate models for complex process systems, and 4) design of materials using data-driven techniques.
