At the University of Texas at Austin, Barbara's master's thesis focused on measuring deformation of flexible films during manufacturing by using a unique property of light interacting with the films known as the photoelastic effect. Recently, her research has advanced to using atomic force microscopy to measure micro/nanoscale patterns during roll-to-roll manufacturing. She has also spent two years as a TA for an intro to engineering class at UT and doing research on the impact of course updates to student learning. As a member of the ME graduate student board, she is also committed to creating a welcoming and inclusive environment to all graduate students in the department.
